itilink, the low-cost arm of Garuda Indonesia, received 152 Chinese tourists on Sunday who traveled onboard the company’s maiden flight from China to the Riau Islands provincial capital of Tanjungpinang.
“We hope the arrival of the Citilink aircraft in Tanjungpinang can open up the door for Citilink’s regular flights to the city, in an effort to support the Indonesian tourism industry,” Citilink president director Albert Burhan said at Tanjungpinang’s Raja Haji Fisabilillah International Airport
The tourists, who flew from Wuhan in central China, were also welcomed by Riau Islands Governor Nurdin Basirun, Tanjungpinang mayor Lis Darmansyah and state airport operator Angkasa Pura II director Muhammad Awaludin.
Citilink plans to bring 7,500 Chinese tourists from a number of cities, including Fuzhou, Wuhan, Guiyang, Changsa and Zhengzhou, to Tanjungpinang by March 2017.
Riau Islands provincial administration has cooperated with tour and travel agencies in China to attract more tourists. Visitors from the country do not need to apply for a visa to enter Indonesia. (hwa)
