irtonadi, a bus terminal in Surakarta, Central Java, has officially applied an electronic ticketing system, which makes it easier for passengers to make or change their ticket reservations, starting from Tuesday.
With the new system, Surakarta becomes Indonesia’s first city that has an online ticket reservation service for both intraprovincial and interprovincial buses.
The ticketing service for long-route buses will use a bus integrated system (BIS), a pilot project that will be used as a model for other terminals.
“I’ve seen this terminal is quite clean just like airports. The e-ticketing program has been implemented to ease passengers in ticket reservations. Such a good service must be maintained and improved further,” said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Tuesday.
Budi tested the electronic system by buying a ticket of a bus serving the Surakarta-Surabaya route and using e-gate facilities in the terminal. He said the e-ticketing system at Tirtonadi Terminal was a quantum leap that must be followed by other bus terminals.
“The market opportunities of bus services remain high. It now depends on how they provide quality services. Our people want an easy and quick service and need a comfortable condition in terminals. Tirtonadi has taken a step forward to realize consumers’ expectations,” said Budi.
The minister said Tirtonadi would be directly connected to Solo Balapan train station and Adi Soemarmo International Airport via an inter-mode integration supporting facility, sky bridges and airport trains.
A passenger identifying herself as Rahayu, 32, said the online system was far more efficient because passengers did not have to form a queue or deal with brokers. (ebf)
