he Transportation Ministry will temporarily ban trucks on several toll roads heading out of Jakarta for the New Year holiday to help ease anticipated congestion.
The ban will apply on several toll roads, including a portion of the Bogor-Ciawi toll road heading to the resort area of Puncak in Bogor, West Java, and several toll road sections of the Cikopo-Palimanan (Cipali), Purbaleunyi (Purwakarta-Bandung-Cileunyi) and Pejagan-Pemalang toll roads, effective from Dec. 30 to Jan. 2.
Trucks will be encouraged to take alternative routes during the period.

Details of the restrictions were laid out on Thursday by the Transportation Ministry’s director general for land transportation, Pudji Hartanto Iskandar.
Pudji also addressed the problem with the Cisomang Bridge on the Purbaleunyi toll road, where a pillar has shifted. He said that while the bridge was safe for small vehicles to use, vehicles with two axles would not be allowed to enter the road from the 65th kilometer marker onward until further notice.
Trucks have been banned from using the road not only to reduce stress on the shifted pillar but to also lessen traffic congestion.
Toll operator Jasa Marga previously urged those travelling from Jakarta to Bandung, West Java, to exit at the Cikampek tollgate instead of using the Sadang-Purwakarta road. Another option is to take the Cipali toll road and exit at the Subang tollgate. (hwa)
