s the first official debate between the Jakarta gubernatorial candidates approaches, an expert suggests the three gubernatorial candidates offer realistic solutions to tackle problems in the capital to win voters' hearts.

"The public can assess whether the programs campaigned by the candidates are realistic," said Hendri Satrio, a political expert from Paramadina University said Friday.

Hendri predicted that in the first debate, the public would be eager to hear solutions related to traffic congestion, floods and the price of goods, which he considered the main problems currently faced by Jakartans.

"Voters' preference will be significantly affected by how candidates present their solutions in solving problems in the capital. They can directly compare the capability and quality of each governor hopeful," he said.

The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) will hold three debates. All three candidate pairs, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni, Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno, will take part in the first debate on Jan. 13. (dmr)
