number of police officers in South Sulawesi, including the chief of the Burau Police in East Luwu regency, are alleged to have been involved in an illegal car trading syndicate.
The South Sulawesi police’s internal affairs division (Propam) recently arrested Adj. Comr. Hariadi Tukiar, the Burau police chief, who is currently undergoing intensive examination.
The police also confiscated 17 cars, of which 12 were seized in East Luwu regency and the other five were picked up in Makassar.
South Sulawesi police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono said Propam was still investigating the case.
Gatot confirmed Hariadi’s implication in the case but did not reveal the depth of his suspected involvement.
Gatot added that apart from going through the police’s internal disciplinary and ethics hearing processes, there was also a possibility that Hariadi’s case would be sent to a criminal court.
Head of the South Sulawesi police’s Propam division, Sr. Comr. Tri Atmodjo, said the illegal car sales syndicate was uncovered after his personnel learned of a car sale using forged vehicle documents.
