onstruction work on blocks I and II of Senen Market, which were razed by fire on Thursday morning, will begin soon and is targeted to be finished by April, Senen Market superintendent Edi Santoso from the Trade Center Coordinator PT Jaya Real Property Tbk, said Friday.
Edi told The Jakarta Post that the process had kicked off on Friday following a meeting with the construction company. “We are preparing to construct around 1,200 kiosks,” he said.
Edi explained that the Trade Center had set up an information center at the market to gather details from vendors who had lost their kiosks to the fire. “This is also to give assurances that their burned kiosks will be rebuilt.”
Thousands of kiosks in blocks I and II of the market were gutted by a fire early on Thursday morning. It is not the first such incident to strike Senen. A fire destroyed 2,337 kiosks in 2010, resulting in losses of around Rp 8.5 billion (US$637,500).
Another fire in 2014 caused by a short circuit in Block III damaged 3,000 kiosks. While in 2016 a fire burned down three kiosks.
