raft cases implicating Jakarta deputy gubernatorial candidate Sylviana Murni, the running mate of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, might affect the pair's electability, an expert has said.

"The voters, especially the rational voters, would consider a candidate's track record. Our survey shows residents want to vote for an honest candidate who is free of corruption," Poltracking Indonesia executive director Hanta Yuda told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Poltracking said on Thursday that its latest survey, conducted from Jan. 9 to 13, with 800 respondents and a 3.46 percent margin of error, found that 30.25 percent of respondents favored Agus and Sylviana.

Their rivals, incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno trailed with 28.88 percent and 28.63 percent, respectively.

Poltracking noted 32.88 percent of respondents would vote for the candidate whose track record did not include a graft case.

Therefore, the graft cases might affect Agus and Sylviana's electability, especially when their political rivals exploit this graft issue to discredit them, he said.

Hanta further said Agus and Sylviana's campaign team needed to prepare their political and legal strategies in handling this issue.

Police questioned on Friday Sylviana as a witness in social aid corruption case in relation to the Jakarta Scout Movement in 2014 and 2015.

Sylviana was previously reported for her alleged involvement in a corruption case pertaining to the construction of Al Fauz Mosque, which was developed during Sylviana’s tenure as Central Jakarta mayor from 2008 to 2010. (jun)
