“He started climbing with three other friends along the Butuh, Temanggung and Kaliangkrik route on Saturday at 8 a.m.,” Agus said on Sunday.
He added that Bramantansyah had fallen into a rocky 10-meter-deep ravine, which contained water, at about 1 p.m. The incident was reported to Yogyakarta by the Butuh base camp at 2 p.m.
A team comprising members of the Central Java Search and Rescue Agency, Magelang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), as well as local police and military officers and volunteers, was subsequently deployed to the site.
The search and rescue effort began at 3:30 p.m. After almost three hours, the victim, who had suffered wounds to his head and back, arrived at the camp, where he was declared dead.
Bramantansyah’s body was buried on Sunday morning in his home village of Mrisi, Bantul regency, Yogyakarta.
