A

selection committee has received more than 500 applications for seven Financial Services Authority (OJK) commissioner positions since applications opened on Jan. 17.

The application period will continue until Feb. 2, said Finance Ministry Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who is also the committee chairwoman, adding that the committee would shortlist 21 candidates to hand over to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

"We want the new commissioners to be committed to stabilizing the financial sector," she said at the Finance Ministry in Jakarta on Monday.

The selected commissioners will serve for five years, until 2022.

Among the candidate requirements are a maximum age of 65, a strong record of integrity, never having faced liquidation or causing a company to be liquidated, as well as experience in the financial sector.

The selection has been peppered with political rumors as the Golkar Party's Yorrys Raweyai has said Golkar politician Ade Komarudin may be recommended to become an OJK commissioner after losing his position as House of Representatives speaker to Golkar chairman Setya Novanto.

"It could be a minister, ambassador, Supreme Audit Agency or OJK [role]. Whatever position suits Ade's competencies," Yorrys said, referring to possible new roles for Ade, as quoted by kompas.com.

Responding to the rumors, Sri Mulyani only said that the selection would be professional. "We will look for qualifications and integrity," she said. (bbn)
