T Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is set to allow mosque caretakers, locally known as marbot, to ride Transjakarta buses for free.
"As a token of recognition to marbot in the capital, the Jakarta administration will let them enjoy free rides on Transjakarta buses," said Transjakarta president director Budi Kaliwono in a statement on Monday.
"We hope we can realize the plan as soon as possible," Budi said, adding that the program was instigated by Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama before he took leave to compete in the gubernatorial election.
Previously, the company offered free rides to people with disabilities, the elderly, veterans, residents of Thousand Islands regency and holders of Social Protection cards. (dmr)
