akarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan is optimistic that he and running mate Sandiaga Uno will perform better than his rivals in the final debate on Friday evening at Bidakara hotel in South Jakarta, saying that improving Jakarta residents’ lives has been main focus of their campaign.

The debate topics will also include women’s issues. Anies said he had prepared programs for women including a “labor emergency unit” in each community health center (Puskesmas), as maternal deaths remained a problem on account of a lack of good medical access in Jakarta.

“I will not reveal all the details here, but you will see at the debate that we have programs that respect and help women,” Anies told reporters recently.

Over the past few days ahead of the debate, Anies has been trying to secure votes in North Jakarta.

On Wednesday, he also visited a rally staged by fishermen protesting the current administration’s reclamation policy, which the fishermen claimed had harmed their livelihoods.

In his visit to the area, which according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is the poorest municipality in the capital, Anies told residents that education was the key for them to have a better life and promised that if elected, he would provide better quality education for the marginalized residents.

“We have many things to show in this third debate so we are glad this issue [quality-of-life] will be raised,” he continued. (evi)
