ight hundred low-income families in Poso and Banggai Laut regencies, Central Sulawesi, are to receive social aid through the productive economic activities (UEP) program from the Social Affairs Ministry this year.

The head of the Central Sulawesi Social Affairs Agency’s social institution and remote custom community empowerment section, Nugroho Santoso, said 400 families from each regency would receive aid worth Rp 2 million (US$150) per family, with the funds coming from the state budget. “There will also be the same amount of aid from the Central Sulawesi provincial budget,” said Nugroho on Tuesday.

The funds will be distributed through joint business groups (KUBE) and deposited directly into the KUBE’s bank accounts.

This year Central Sulawesi received KUBE funds for 100 people worth Rp 20 million each in which each KUBE had 10 members.
