he Jakarta Environment Agency plans to transform a river section near Jl. Puri Indah in West Jakarta into a tourist attraction and open public space.
The agency’s water management head, Junjungan Sihombing, said the section could become a tourist attraction because the location was clean thanks to regular cleanup work. Eateries and parking spaces around the section will also support the transformation.
“We also plan to breed fish in the river. The fish could also help the river’s ecosystem and attract more visitors,” Junjungan said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Junjungan added that the agency would cooperate with other agencies, including the Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency, to develop the area.
Aside from Puri Indah, the administration is looking into other areas that have the potential to be developed into public attractions such as the East Flood Canal and the Rawa Dongkal reservoir in East Jakarta, the Mangga Bolong reservoir in South Jakarta and the Melati reservoir in Central Jakarta.
