By Monday afternoon, the number of displaced residents had reached more than 500.
According to Kartika, 35, one of the residents affected by the flood, she had to leave her flooded house at 1 p.m. on Sunday, aided by rafts provided by Cipinang Melayu subdistrict. First she was moved to the subdistrict's office, but she and her family were relocated to Borobudur University's mosque as the number of displaced residents rose.
Another resident, Sumi, 52, said the flooding occurred annually. The water comes from the overflowing Sunter River.
Both Kartika and Sumi said their families had received adequate aid from the subdistrict office.
As of 3 p.m. on Monday, the water level had begun to slowly subside. (dea/evi)
