nder its new manager Luis Milla, the Indonesian national soccer team is scheduled to play a friendly match against Singapore on either Mar. 25 or 27.
The match will be a testing ground ahead of the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in August, where Indonesia has set a lofty goal of winning a gold medal in the biennial multisport event. The last time Indonesia won SEA Games gold was in 1991.
“We’ve sent an official mail of request to the Singaporean soccer federation and we’re now waiting for its response. Nevertheless, we’ve had a verbal commitment [on the friendly match],” the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) secretary-general Ade Wellington was quoted by Antara as saying.
Ade confirmed that the friendly match would become part of the country’s preparations for the SEA Games. The final roster for the national team however had not been formed yet, he said.
“The friendly match will also be used by the team’s manager as the medium to select his future lineup [for SEA Games],” said Ade.
Milla reportedly looks to narrow down the roster to 25 players in a national selection process that will take place from Tuesday to Thursday. (nkn)
