ational Narcotics Agency (BNN) officials shot dead a man suspected of trafficking drugs on Jl. Gagak Hitam Ringroad in Medan, North Sumatra, on Sunday.
The officials also arrested another man and confiscated 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
BNN’s North Sumatra office head Brig. Gen. Andi Loedianto said the officers were forced to shoot one of the two suspects as he resisted arrest. The suspect was shot while in his car at 10 a.m.
Andi told The Jakarta Post on Sunday that the suspects were planning to distribute the methamphetamine in Medan.
The raid was a follow up to an investigation into a drug ring in Jakarta. The suspects are allegedly part of an international syndicate based in Malaysia.
In Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau Islands, BNN officers also arrested a suspect identified only by the initials AK, 35, carrying 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine. “AK said he was asked to deliver the drugs to a buyer, who happened to be an undercover cop. He said he was paid Rp 20 million [US$1,500] for the job,” Nixon told the Post on Friday.
