Operator to expand capacity of Soekarno-Hatta airport’s runways
State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) will invest Rp 625 billion (US$46.25 million) to expand the capacity of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s runways in Tangerang, Banten, so that it can serve 86 flights an hour.

tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) will invest Rp 625 billion (US$46.25 million) to expand the capacity of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s runways in Tangerang, Banten, so that it can serve 86 flights an hour.
The project includes expanding the apron and taxiways in the airport's southern and northern zones, as well as the development of cross taxiways and rapid exit taxiways in the northern zone of among the busiest airports in the world.
“If the improved runway capacity [IRC] can be expanded to 86 flights per hour, up from currently 72 flights, the airport is expected to be able to add new routes, particularly international flights, and to improve on-time performance,” said PT AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin in a press statement on Sunday.

The project, which was expected to be completed late this year or early next year, was to help smoothen traffic while the planes were on land and to improve safety, he noted.
Currently, the airport has also started to develop the east cross taxiway to connect the north and south runways, Awaluddin said, adding that the airport would also develop a third runway.
These projects follow the development of various facilities, including Terminal 3, the skytrain (driverless train), integrated buildings, railway station, cargo village and the revitalization of terminals 1 and 2. (bbn)
