T

he Pekanbaru Police in Riau have arrested three residents from Aceh for allegedly possessing 854 ecstasy pills and powder suspected to be used to produce the drugs.

Officers of the police’s narcotics division arrested the three suspects, identified only as HN, 41, AL, 31, and RA, 34, at around 4 a.m. local time on Monday.

The Pekanbaru Police’s narcotics division head, First Insp. Noki Loviko, said the arrest took place in the house of one of the three suspects at the Damai Langgeng housing complex in Panam, Pekanbaru, shortly after they arrived from Aceh.

“Earlier, we received information on the arrival of ecstasy distributors from Aceh. After an investigation, we managed to locate their hideout, which turned out to be HN’s house,” he said on Monday.

During the search, the police found ecstasy pills in several packages. They comprised one large package, which contained 475 pills, and four small packages, with 379 pills in total.

Officers also confiscated a digital weighing tool, three mobile phones, a bayonet and a book allegedly containing a list of drug transactions.

“A package was also found containing 194.5 grams of powder suspected to be psychotropic substances, which are known as the raw material to produce ecstasy pills. The powder was enough to make 500 pills,” Noki said.

“It was suspected the drugs would be distributed in Pekanbaru. We are still investigating on whether the drugs would be sold directly to night clubs or via dealers. We are also coordinating with police authorities in Aceh to locate the 'big' dealer,” he added.  (ebf)
