tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) plans to invest Rp 625 billion (US$46.25 million) to expand airside facilities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SHIA) in Tangerang, Banten, so that it can serve 86 flights an hour.
The project includes expanding the runways, taxiways and apron in the airport’s southern and northern zones as well as the building cross taxiways and rapid exit taxiways in the northern zone. SHIA is among the busiest airports in the world.
“If the improved runway capacity can be upped to 86 flights per hour from currently 72 flights, the airport is expected to be able to add new routes, particularly international flights, and to improve on-time performance,” AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said in a press statement on Sunday.
The airport had also started to develop the east cross taxiway to connect the north and south runways, Awaluddin said, noting that the airport would also receive a third runway.
