T

he Directorate General of Taxation has reiterated its call to businesspeople to join the tax amnesty before the program ends on March 31, as the government will follow it with strict monitoring and law enforcement.

The call was made by Deputy Finance Minister Mardiasmo during a talk on the tax amnesty on Tuesday attended by businesspeople from various sectors under the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

“We met 250 [representatives of] associations under Kadin to convey the message to all of their members to join the tax amnesty. We have sent letters to all of the business groups,” said tax authority spokesperson Hestu Yoga Saksama after the event.

As the clock is ticking toward the end of the program, Yoga said the tax authority would not be able to hold amnesty promotion events for each business association under Kadin, but all of its offices across the country would be ready to hold events if requests were made.

The tax amnesty attracted massive number of big taxpayers during the first phase between July and September last year, but experts say the government’s flagship program has lost steam in its second and third phases, which together span from October until the end of March.

The tax authority is slated to hold a tax amnesty campaign event on Wednesday with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and members of Buddhist, Confucian and Hindu groups, following a previous talk for Muslims and Christians. (bbn)
