Port operator to implement reclamation at Tanjung Emas Port

tate-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III plans to reclaim land at Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang, Central Java, as part of the port's development plan.
"The total reclamation area for this phase is 22 hectares on the east side of the port," Pelindo III Tanjung Emas Semarang office general manager Agus Hermawan said in Semarang on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
The company has allocated Rp 150 billion (US$11.2 million) for the project from the port's development investment set in 2012.

Currently, the company is in process of arranging required licenses. "We are also in the process of submitting an environmental impact analysis to the Environment and Forestry Ministry," he added.
Port supporting facilities, such as storage tanks, docks, warehouses and storage fields, will be built on the reclaimed land in 2018. These facilities are expected to support customer businesses as they will be able to store and process materials at the port instead of taking them out of the area.
Agus expressed hope that the port expansion would accelerate loading and unloading and thus lower logistics costs.
Currently, the port's unloading time stands at an average of two ships per day. "We are implementing this work to support Central Java's economy and the mushrooming of new industries in Semarang and the local vicinity," he said.
The second phase of the reclamation will encompass 82 hectares (bbn)
