he House of Representatives will establish a working group to investigate the basis of the establishment of a deputy president director position at state-owned energy firm Pertamina, following the recent firing of its president director and deputy due to alleged infighting.
The decision was made after Commission VI — overseeing trade, industry and investment — met with a senior official from the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, Pertamina and its subsidiary PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas).
“A working group [on Pertamina] will be formed and we will discuss it further during an internal meeting,” Commission VI deputy chairman Inas Nasrullah Zubir said at the conclusion of the meeting on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto and deputy president director Ahmad Bambang were fired from their positions due to leadership issues and a lack of communication between the two men, which the board of commissioners thought to be the cause of several lags in Pertamina’s performance.
Dwi was appointed president director in late 2014, while Ahmad Bambang was elected deputy, a position that had not existed prior to his appointment, late last year. The new position was established following advice from consulting firm Accenture, according to the commissioners.
However, during the meeting at the House on Thursday, several members of the Commission VI questioned the legal basis for the establishment of the position. (bbn)
