he Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has called up 12 of overseas-based players to come home, offering them a chance to strengthen the national under-19 squad.
The talents are Sammuel Christianso, Syahrian Abimanyu, Nicholas Pambudi, Pancar Nur Widiantono and Adam Putra Firdaus—who currently play in Spain; as well as Excel Favour YT, Fidelis Kelby Timothy and Muhammad R. Habibie in Italy; George Brown and Jack Brown in England; Charalamboss Elias David in Greece; and, Andri Syahputra in Qatar.
The selection process for the U-19 team is set to be completed in early April. Indra Sjafri’s team is scheduled to partake in the U-19 AFF Cup in September and in the qualifying round of the Asian Cup in October.
In the meantime, Indonesian national team manager Luis Milla has conducted a three-day national selection process to construct a U-22 squad for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in August.
Showing support for the Spanish coach, Indra said he would allow anyone in his future squads to be called up for the senior team if needed.
“If Milla needs one or more of my players, I will certainly accommodate that,” said Indra in a press release. (nkn)
