Meet 4 celebrities on current political scene
Some Indonesian celebrities don’t just perform in front of the camera or on stage, they can also be found taking part in the country’s active political scene.
Below are four renowned Indonesian celebrities who have swapped their showbiz path for one in politics:
Ahmad Dhani
Ahmad Dhani is perhaps one of the most talked about musician-cum-politicians in the country. Running alongside Saduddin, Dhani was among the candidates in the Bekasi regency election held on Feb. 15. However, the latest report by the General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that the pair had come second to the regency’s incumbent pair, Neneng Hasanah Yasin and Eka Supria Atmaja.
Prior to the election, Dhani’s move into politics started when the Gerindra Party announced its plan to nominate him for the Surabaya mayoralty in 2015. Alongside activist Ratna Sarumpaet, the musician also placed himself as an opponent to Jakarta’s governor and incumbent gubernatorial candidate Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama. The climax occurred when Dhani and Ratna, along with eight other renowned figures, were named suspects in an alleged attempt to stir up sentiment against the government hours before a massive rally on Dec. 2 last year. Both were later released, however, Dhani remains a suspect for allegedly defaming President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Borobudur hosts new dance performance
State-owned company Taman Wisata Candi is now hosting Kidung Karmawibhangga dance performances at the Borobudur temple complex in Magelang regency, Central Java.
Held in collaboration with the Yayasan Brayat Penangkaran Borobudur, the monthly show kicked off in February and is slated to run every second Saturday of the month.
“The [dance] is performed on the Lumbini Park Stage [inside] Borobudur temple,” said Sucoro, the foundation’s founder, as reported by tempo.co.
Six tips for frequent business travelers
Traveling for work is not the same as traveling for leisure. It requires efficiency, as you will deal with various business-related activities, such as meetings, conferences or even a gala dinner once you arrive in your destination.
Below are some tips all business travelers should consider in preparing, regardless of the business they are in and the destination they are going to.
Always be prepared
Avid business travelers should always be ready for that one-month business trip or an unscheduled trip in two days, if circumstances demand it. This means your passport should be no less than six months from its expiration date, your visa should be ready and you have done some research about the weather in your destination, the places you will be visiting as well accommodation and transportation options.
