umpin, a small village in Bogor, West Java, is set to build the largest State Defense Education and Training Center in Indonesia aimed to be completed next year.

Built in 2014 on a 21.3-hectare plot, the center is expected to accommodate up to 2,000 participants with varied supporting facilities, including soccer fields and a swimming pool.

The development of the project is underway and is expected to be complete in 2018, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said.

"Our ministry has planned to expand the center. This [State Defense Education and Training Center] is very important for us Indonesians," he said on Tuesday.

He said the ministry would also expand the center's capacity to 50 ha in 2019, targeting to double the capacity to 5,000 people.

Head of the State Defense Training Center, Maj. Gen. Hartind Asrin, said an expanded education and training center will expectedly be able to host state defense programs simultaneously. The center currently has 25 facilitators and has planned to increase their number to 100 in the next six months.

"We need more facilitators since a lot of institutions are eager to voluntarily join the program," Hartind said, while citing that from 2015 to 2017 there were over two million people who had participated in the program inside and outside the center. (hol)
