ommuter train operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) has launched portable ramps as part of efforts to provide more inclusive services for its customers, an official has said.

KCJ spokesperson Eva Chaerunisa said the ramps, which are made of aluminum, were designed to help passengers who use wheelchairs to board or alight from trains.

“Our officials will stand by at train stations to help passengers that need the service,” Eva said in a statement on Friday.

She said a prototype of the ramp had been tested and was currently entering production. She hoped that by May, the ramps would be available at 74 train stations across Greater Jakarta.

The state-owned railway company already provides wheelchairs at all stations in the capital along with some permanent ramp facilities and manual gates.

KCJ has also equipped stations with information boards that allow passengers with hearing impairment to access train route information. For visually impaired passengers, the company provides regular audio announcements.
