unior high school students in Tangerang, Banten, will have feminine hygiene products and new underwear provided at school when needed, as the city administration has required the education institutions to make them available.
Tangerang Education Agency head of junior high school development Jamaludin said the agency had created a so-called “one day service toilet” that required public and private junior high schools to provide small shelves in girl’s restrooms and stock them with sanitary pads and underwear.
Jamaludin said the program aimed to protect girls’ interests. Thanks to the supplies, girls who are menstruating, especially for the first time, will be able to avoid embarrassing situations at school.
“We are still exploring the possibilities,” said Jamaludin, as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com. “The program will be mandatory for all schools in Tangerang.”
