T

he United Development Party (PPP), which backed losing pair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni in the first round of the Jakarta gubernatorial election, will announce its endorsement for the runoff next week, a party official has said.

The Muhammad Romahurmuziy-led PPP had yet to decide whether to support the Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat ticket or the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno ticket.

“We will probably announce the decision next week,” PPP secretary-general Arsul Sani told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

He said the party elites still needed to take into account numerous considerations before publicly announcing their decision. “The internal consultations within the party stakeholders were still ongoing,” Asrul added.

The PPP camp led by Djan Faridz threw its support for Ahok during the election’s first round.

The Jakarta General Elections Commission had officially announced the results of the first round, in which Ahok-Djarot narrowly edged out Anies-Sandiaga. The pairs respectively garnered 2,364,577 and 2,197,333 votes, eliminating the Agus-Sylviana ticket, which finished third with 937,955 votes.

The runoff has been slated for April 19.
