hairwoman of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri met with the wife of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor on Tuesday, as the latter wanted to invite the former president to an event in Malaysia.

Accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla's wife Mufidah Kalla, Megawati hosted the meeting at her private residence on Jl. Teuku Umar, Menteng, in Central Jakarta at 10:30 a.m., Kompas.com reported.

In the meeting, Rosmah officially invited Megawati to be a speaker at an upcoming event in Malaysia, PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kritiyanto said, adding that the two also discussed women’s empowerment issues.

"Megawati also pushed for women's rights during her term, through the Domestic Violence Law for example," he said as reported by Kompas.

Several female ministers also attended the meeting, such as Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani, Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya. (foy/rin)
