resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has been advised to appoint an independent audit team to look into state-owned energy company Pertamina, following an internal rift that ended with the dismissal of its CEO and deputy CEO.
A group of volunteers who supported Jokowi in the 2014 presidential election said the rift was continuing, following rumors of the dismissal of Pertamina’s vice president for corporate communications, Wianda Pusponegoro, on Monday.
Wianda denied the rumor, stressing that she was still in her position.
“I see that this is a serious problem in the company. It seems there is [internal] rivalry to control information for the media,” Joanes Joko, coordinator of the volunteer group dubbed National Duta Joko Widodo, said as reported by tribunnews.com.

Previously, Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto and his deputy Ahmad Bambang were dismissed after their rift was considered to have affected the company’s performance. The government has delayed the appointment of their successors, saying the selection process was ongoing.
An audit by an independent team was needed to prevent certain parties from becoming parasites in the company, said Joanes, adding that at the same time, an audit would help disclose the problems being faced by Pertamina.
He said people only knew about the tip of the iceberg of the company’s problems, adding it was more serious than just a rift because conflicting interests had tried to control the giant company. (bbn)
