he Navy’s Marine Corps has a new chief, Maj. Gen. Bambang Suswantono, a familiar figure within the Presidential Palace circle. He is replacing Maj. Gen. RM Trusono.
The transfer of duty was held at the Marine Corps’ infantry brigade headquarters in Cilandak, South Jakarta, in a ceremony on Thursday led by Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Ade Supandi.
"Both generals [Trusono and Bambang] are good officers. I believe they will continue doing their best in their new positions,” Ade said while addressing the ceremony.
Bambang, a 1987 graduate of the Naval Academy, is the 22nd commander of the Marine Corps. He has spent most of his career in the corps, but was seconded to the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres), where he was Paspampres commander from May 2016 before being appointed the new Marine Corps chief.
Meanwhile, Trusono, a 1985 graduate of the Naval Academy, will be installed as commander of the military’s Staff and Command School (Sesko).
