fter declaring that an additional 156,000 people would be registered on the voter list, the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) said it would open nine more voting stations in the second round of the gubernatorial election.

KPU Jakarta head Sumarno said Tuesday there would be 13,032 voting stations for the runoff, from 13,023 during the first round.

Most of the additional stations will be established in East Jakarta with four stations, one in South Jakarta, while Central and West Jakarta will have two additional voting stations each.

He added that by adding voting stations in various areas, the commission expected voters to have better access to voting.

“Voting stations must be accessible to voters so it is easy for them to vote,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

Previously, responding to public criticism that thousands of people were unable to vote in the first round of the gubernatorial election, KPU Jakarta said it would guarantee the voting rights of an additional 156,000 people in the runoff.

KPU Jakarta commissioner M. Sidik said the number was determined after the commission gathered data of residents who voted by showing electronic identification (e-ID) cards or recommendation letters issued by the Civil Registry and Demography Agency during the first round on Feb. 15 and unregistered voters who according to the law have the right to vote.
