KPK names Andi Narogong a suspect in e-ID graft case

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declared on Thursday businessman Andi Agustinus, aka Andi Narogong, a suspect in a graft case related to e-ID card procurement.
Andi is believed to be a close confidant of House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto, who is Golkar Party chairman and who reportedly helped the former get House approval for the Rp 5.9 trillion (US$442.71 million) budget for the e-ID project between 2010 and 2013.
KPK commissioner Alexander Marwata said Andi played an active role in influencing the budgeting process of the e-ID project at the House and the tender for the project at the Home Ministry.
“He has been charged under Article 2 of the 1999 Corruption Law,” Alexander told reporters at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday evening.
The KPK has already named two suspects in the case. They are the former director general for civil registration at the ministry, Irman, and the former home ministry official in charge of the project’s tender, Sugiharto, both of whom are currently standing trial.
Alex said the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) had concluded that the case had caused Rp 2.3 trillion in state losses.
After the House approved the budget for the project, Narogong reportedly lobbied Irman and Sugiharto in order to have companies affiliated to him named winners of the project’s tender. (ebf)
