n our headline story “Candidates ratchet up tensions,” published on Saturday, March 25, we wrote, “mass organizations, such as the Betawi People’s Communication Forum (Forkabi), the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) and the Communication Forum of Indonesian Veterans’ Children (FKPPI), all of which have been allegedly involved in gang violence.” In a statement made on Sunday, the FKKPI denied that it has any involvement in gang violence and rejects the characterization that we made in the story. We hereby retract the statement and apologize for making it without consulting the FKPPI, Forkabi and FBR and for not providing further supporting evidence.
