Some 8,094 Depok children under 5 years old were identified as obese in 2016.
Depok Health Agency secretary Ernawati said on Tuesday that the number had significantly increased from 2015 , which saw 4,524 toddlers with similar issues.
She said the 2016 data made up 6.06 percent of the country's 133,446 toddler obesity cases, "while in 2015 the data accounted for only 3.7 percent of the 124,067 national cases," she said as quoted by tempo.co.
She added that this year’s figure in Depok was still below the 10 percent prevalence level, as 121,396 toddlers or 90.96 percent were declared healthy.
However, she warned that obese children were at risk of experiencing health issues, including heart-related problems and high cholesterol. (idb)
