tate-owned electricity firm PT PLN's latest electricity procurement business plan (RUPTL), spanning from 2017 to 2026, has set a national electricity capacity of 125 gigawatts (GW) by 2025.

The target is higher than the one listed in the National Energy Policy (KEN), issued in 2014, which set a national capacity target of 115 GW by 2025.

The total target also includes the government's ambitious 35,000 megawatt (MW) program, said the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's acting electricity director general, Rida Mulyana in Jakarta on Monday.

"We have set an electricity growth target of around 8.3 percent within the next decade," he said during a morning meeting held at the ministry in Jakarta on Monday.

"Furthermore, we will encourage more growth outside of Java and Bali, and have set a national capacity target of 75 GW in 2019 and 125 GW in 2025, higher than the initial KEN target of 115 GW."

In total, PLN has set a target to construct an additional 77 GW of power plants by 2025, 67,422 kilometers of transmission lined and 164,170 mega volt ampere of electricity grids.

Furthermore, a 100 percent electrification ratio is hoped to be achieved by 2024, as stipulated by the RUPTL. Last year, the electrification ratio reached 91 percent.

The RUPTL spans a decade and is updated every year. (bbn)
