he local unit of a United States computer networking company, Cisco Systems, says it considers small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia as its potential market to boost its services.

Indonesia’s SMEs needed to transform from traditional to digital modes in order to survive in the more competitive market, said Cisco Systems Indonesia’s country manager Budi Santoso Sutanto in Jakarta on Tuesday.

For that SMEs need to prepare many things, including protection for their computer networks.

“Most of the companies in Indonesia do not have awareness of malware (malicious software) that affects their networks and it takes time to be noticed,” he said during a press briefing.

“We offer security network services that can detect the malware in six hours, much earlier than other providers, which need about three months to detect the problem,” he added.

Cisco said it offers an affordable package of software and hardware that it calls Cisco Start to secure networks and protect data with prices that start at US$20.

Cisco is a company that provides network security for various business sectors. The company has served Indonesian businesses mainly in the financial services industry, e-commerce, e-learning and the internal networks of private companies. (ecn/bbn)
