ational Police chief Tito Karnavian announced on Wednesday afternoon that by the end of the voting period at 1 p.m., Jakarta remained secure and free from any significant disturbances.
“We have not received information about any critical disturbances so far,” Tito said during a press conference at the campus of the Police Higher Education College (PTIK) in South Jakarta on Wednesday.
Tito confirmed that some conflicts occurred at polling stations in East Jakarta, West Jakarta and North Jakarta.
However, Tito called these disturbances “misunderstandings that were exaggerated and then reported as acts of intimidation”.
“The police received reports [from various parties]. We quickly deployed police officers to curb the conflicts and [the findings show that] they were just misunderstandings,” he said.

He also expressed the hope that the whole election would run smoothly until the official announcement of the election result by the Jakarta General Elections Commission.
Meanwhile, Tito also denied that mass mobilizations were taking place across Indonesia.
“We checked with the West Java Police chief and the Banten Police chief. [They said] no mass mobilizations were taking place outside Jakarta. I have ordered all police branches in Java and in some regions in Sumatra to prevent citizens from entering the capital if they have no urgent need to do so because an influx could unsettle the situation in Jakarta.” (dea)
