tate-owned construction firm Brantas Abipraya has expressed optimism that an under-construction road near the border with Malaysia in Kalimantan will be completed earlier than November 2018, the deadline for the project set by the government.
The 27.5-kilometer road is part of government’s efforts to make remote Indonesian territories more accessible and develop border areas. Similar projects are being implemented in Papua.
The road will connect the West Kalimantan towns of Nanga Bandau and Lanjak.
"Our progress is already 4 percent ahead of our target, so maybe it can finish at least six months earlier," Ahmadi, Brantas Abipraya’s official in charge of the project, said on Thursday.
The multi-year project, worth Rp 284 billion (US$21.3 million), has progressed to 41.8 percent by the end of April, further than the targeted 37.1 percent.
The construction began in January 2016 and was initially expected to finish around November 2018.
According to the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, the project is part of a 1,900-kilometer road to be developed along the border separating Kalimantan and Malaysia. (bbn)
