resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has called on West Java leaders to greatly expand the regional economy to generate jobs.
In his remarks to open a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, Jokowi noted that the rate of unemployment in the province rose to 8.89 percent in 2016 from 8.72 percent in the previous year.
"With a growth of 5.67 percent in 2016, West Java needs to be able to grow even more in order to create new jobs for the unemployed," he said.

Moreover, Jokowi invited the provincial administration to team up with the central government to resolve problems hampering the execution of priority projects in the region.
"I ask the governor or the provincial administration to actively resolve issues that we still face in the field, including land acquisition and changes in spatial plans, as well as to anticipate the effects of infrastructure development in the region," Jokowi said, adding that building infrastructure was a key to higher economic growth and more equal income distribution in the province.
