domestic worker has been killed in a fire that erupted at a house located in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, on Thursday morning.

North Jakarta Police spokesperson Comr. Sungkono said the fire started at 2:20 a.m. and was allegedly caused by an electrical short circuit in the house.

He added that the fire was first noticed by Atmi, a neighbor, who then called for help.

“She was also the one who called the police and security officers nearby,” Sungkono said as quoted by tempo.co.

However, while three other people managed to escape the scene, 40-year-old Tumirah was trapped in the house. Sungkono said the victim could not be saved as the fire had burned out a large part of the house’s ground floor.

The police are still questioning several witnesses in relation to the tragedy. (idb)
