he Philippines booked its place in the semifinals of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-15 Girls’ Championship in style when it whipped Cambodia 3-0 on Thursday as Singapore fought its way back into contention with a 2-1 win over Indonesia in Vientiane.
With just four teams in Group B, the fight is now down to between Singapore and Cambodia, which have each picked up three points, while Indonesia is already out after two losses in a row, reported the federation’s website, aseanfootball.org.
Cambodia will complete its group fixtures against Indonesia on Saturday.
“We cannot advance to the next round, but allowing those girls to experience an international tournament is pivotal,” Indonesian team coach Rully Nere said in a statement.
In the Thursday evening game, the top of the table clash saw a confident Philippines side taking to the field against a Cambodian side, which seemed a little fatigued for the task ahead.
The Philippines produced three solid goals from Alexander Yap, Lazo Diaz and Anya Fuentes.
On the other hand, Singapore came back from a goal down to beat Indonesia 2-1 in a tie, which it needed to win for a place in the semifinals.
Indonesia earned a leading score in the 27th minute from a penalty kick by striker Carla Pattinasarany following a foul on Anisa Febiana by Singapore’s Nasriah Ibrahim. Singapore, however, wrapped up the match with two sizzling goals by Putri Nur Sazali in the 51st and 55th minutes.
In Group A, Thailand and Laos are the top two with each pocketing six and three points, respectively. On Friday, Thailand is set to play against Malaysia, while Myanmar will face Vietnam.
