tate-run Syiah Kuala University (Unisyah) in Banda Aceh, Aceh, this week began construction of a new building for its Veterinary Faculty, assisted by funds from Saudi Arabia in line with a bilateral cooperation on higher education.
Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Nasir and Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia Osama bin Mohammed Abdullah Al Shuaibi attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the project at Unisyah on Monday.
Saudi Arabian government agency Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has poured in loans totaling US$34,971,753 for the "7 in 1 Project."
Through the project, the SFD and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in Indonesia look to develop higher education institutions through renovations, as well as improve in the curricula and skills of academic staff in seven universities. Nasir said Unisyah was the first university to undergo these changes.
"The seven universities committed in the cooperation of the project are Surabaya State University, Yogyakarta State University, Sam Ratulangi University, Gorontalo State University, Tanjungpura State University and Lambung Mangkurat University," Nasir said at the ceremony on Monday, as quoted by a statement from the Saudi Arabian Embassy on Wednesday.

Osama underlined a commitment to improving on science and technology in Indonesia, especially in Aceh province.
Saudi Arabia through the SFD during King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud's state visit in March signed 11 memorandum of understandings (MoU) with Indonesia worth Rp 13 billion, according to the statement. (jun)
