he South Jakarta Police announced on Tuesday that they had arrested three people from two different motorbike gangs in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.
The arrest on Saturday followed a report from concerned residents about the gangs’ violent members, who had been disturbing people.
South Jakarta Police criminal unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Budhi Hermanto said that the gangs used to hang around and drink alcohol. They also convoyed along the streets while carrying sharp weapons early in the mornings
“Tens of the youngsters would gather and get drunk. Afterwards, senior members of the gangs would equip the others with weapons and command them to injure random people. Those who could prove themselves as the most violent members would be established as their leader,” Budhi said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The arrested three were identified only by initials PH, 25, IM, 26, and WRA, 18.
While drunk, the members would search nearby streets for targets, Budhi added.
“Their victims were random. Anyone they met would instantly be harmed. They wanted to show they were brave,” he said.
Budhi said the police took the matter of violent motorbike gangs very seriously as the latter did not think twice about hurting people.
“We urge them to not mess around in the area.” (dea)
