T

he South Jakarta Transportation Agency announced on Thursday a spectacular accumulated fine of Rp 77 million (US$5790) that the owner of two neglected and towed vehicles was now obliged to pay after failing to heed warning letters.

“The vehicles, a minibus and a taxi, were towed more than two months ago. The fine for the minibus has reached Rp 45.5 million and that of the taxi is Rp 31.5 million,” said Christianto, the South Jakarta Transportation Agency head, as quoted by beritajakarta.id.

He added that the agency had sent two warning letters for each car, but the agency had yet to receive any response.

According to City Bylaw no. 5/2014 on transportation, owners of towed cars are to be fined Rp 500,000 for each day their cars sit in the administration’s compound.

Christianto said that the agency would register every towed vehicle to Bank DKI, “so owners could pay the fine directly to the bank.” (kuk)
