oogle has projected that a buying spree through e-commerce will reach its peak in the second and third week of Ramadhan, as the latest survey on consumer behavior has indicated.
Google Indonesia e-commerce head Henky Prihatna said a survey conducted by Google Indonesia on Indonesian online consumers in 2016 revealed that searches on topics related to the holy month increased by 28 percent during Ramadhan last year.
Consumer spending, he further explained, also surged 30 percent while the use of credit cards as a payment method jumped by 60 percent amid a surge in advertisements to promote the cards by 20 percent.
“Fashion is the highest [contributor] in terms of sales increase, by 180 percent, followed by home appliances, by 100 percent, and cellular phone by 80 percent,” Henky said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In fashion alone, female Muslim wear led the uplift with a 330 percent hike, followed by Muslim wear for kids with a 230 percent increase.
Henky said searches for smartphones decreased during the last week of Ramadhan last year, but then rebounded in the first week after Idul Fitri which, according to him, was driven by youngsters who wanted to spend their “holiday bonuses” from their relatives to buy gadgets. (dra/ags)
