he Finance Ministry recorded that as of May it had collected Rp 463.6 trillion (US$34.88 billion) in tax revenue, about 30.9 percent of this year’s target, an official said.
The government aims to collect Rp 1.49 quadrillion in tax revenue this year.
“It increased 13.9 percent from the figure last year,” said the ministry’s risk management director general, Robert Pakpahan, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The collection of tax revenue from the non-oil and gas sector reached Rp 396 trillion, 31.7 percent from the 2017 target. It grew 13.4 percent from last year’s figure.
Meanwhile, customs and excise contributed Rp 45.7 trillion or 23.9 percent of the target.
Taxes from oil and gas contributed 21 trillion or 58.4 percent from the 2017 target of 35.9 trillion. It grew 47.6 percent from the figure in 2016.
Previously, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stressed the government could not drastically increase the tax ratio in a short time frame because doing so could distort the country’s economy.
The government estimates the tax ratio will reach less than 11 percent this year. In 2018, the tax ratio is targeted at between 11 percent and 12 percent.
Sri Mulyani said the government had not revised the tax ratio assumption for next year, although the House of Representatives demanded that it increase the figure to 13 percent. (bbn)
