he Bogor administration has taken an anticipatory approach in expectation of Idul Fitri exodus victims by preparing 40 burial plots at public cemeteries.
“The plots also being prepared to anticipate the lack of grave diggers during the long holiday,” said Bogor Housing and Settlement Agency official Toto Guntoro. “In past years, not many graves were eventually used,” he said.
The graves are being prepared at eight public cemeteries: Blender, Cimahpar, Cipaku, Dreded, Gunung Gadung, Mulyaharja, (TPU) Kayumanis and Situ Gede. Aside from the Blender and Dreded public cemeteries, which were nearly filled to capacity, the six other cemeteries still had empty land of around 20 hectares together, said Toto, head of the agency’s regional technical implementing unit (UPTD) for cemeteries.
He added that five burial plots would be prepared in each cemetery, the work for which would begin five days before Idul Fitri.
“There will be 10 staff on standby for 24 hours at every cemetery [during the Idul Fitri holidays],” Toto was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com.
Last year, the agency also prepared 40 burial plots ahead of Idul Fitri, but only two were used. (wnd)
