ven though Idul Fitri is still four days away, 62,729 Jakarta residents left the city from June 15 to June 19 to take part in the annual mudik (exodus) tradition to celebrate the end of Ramadhan in their hometowns.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency recorded that the residents were served by 4,321 buses departing from seven bus stations in Kampung Rambutan, Kalideres, Tanjung Priok, Muara Angke, Pinang Ranti, Lebak Bulus and Grogol.
Agency head Andri Yansyah advised the homebound travelers to check the official bus fares at ticket booths in each station.
"All fares should be processed through the ticket booth and passengers should be charged in accordance with the price ceiling," Andri said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Andri said his agency would monitor the implementation of the price ceiling, while promising to impose sanctions on those selling fares higher than the ceiling. (cal/dmr)
