tate railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) found 12 people who had tried to use fake boarding passes to travel from Pasar Senen station in Central Jakarta to Kutoarjo, Central Java, on Friday
They had planned to take Kutojaya Utara and Kutojaya Utara Premium trains to leave the city in mudik (mass exodus) tradition to celebrate Idul Fitri in their hometown.
"The tickets they bought were not registered in KAI boarding system. When they tried to check in, the tickets couldn't be detected," KAI spokesman Suprapto said on Saturday.
To Suprapto, those people explained that they brought the tickets from other people who might have forged the boarding passes.
He said passengers were advised not to buy tickets from individuals or ticket scalpers.
"Passengers are advised to print out their boarding pass at the counters provided at the stations," Suprapto said.
If passengers are in doubt about a ticket's originality, they should report it to KAI or station officers, Suprapto added.
KAI has recorded that from June 15, 485,214 passengers had left the city by train from Pasar Senen station to many areas in Java.
